I live in South Africa, where the majority of the population lives in poverty - stuck in cycles that feel impossible to break. But I've seen firsthand that it doesn't have to be this way. I've watched students transform their lives through the skills they gained, breaking generational poverty cycles and going on to help others do the same.
For years, I've talked about the "oxygen mask principle" with my students. On an airplane, you put your own mask on first, then help those around you. Now that I'm financially stable, I can help others put on their masks so they can breathe too - and eventually help others themselves.
There's an endless amount of knowledge on the internet and countless remote opportunities available. Yet people still suffer from poverty and unemployment. Governments and institutions move slowly. Real change comes from within communities - through compassion, sacrifice, and sharing what we know.
